On April 12, 2024, a panel of the Inquiry Committee approved a consent agreement between BCCNM and Jennifer Smith of Nanaimo to address practice issues that occurred between May 4 and October 9, 2022, related to her failure to adhere to the medication administration and documentation practice standards.
The registrant has voluntarily agreed to terms equivalent to a limit and/or condition on their practice, including:
a. A suspension of their nursing registration for six weeks.
b. A limit prohibiting them from working overtime, working as the sole regulated nurse on duty, working on more than one unit, handling opioids without supervision, or providing care to patients in their homes, as well as providing regulatory supervision to nursing students while they work to remediate their nursing practice.
c. Remedial education in professional responsibility and accountability, clinical decision making, ethics, documentation, and medication administration.
The Inquiry Committee is satisfied that the terms will protect the public.
