BCCNM is the college empowered under the Health Professions Act to regulate the practice of all licensed practical nurses, nurse practitioners, registered midwives, registered nurses, and registered psychiatric nurses in British Columbia. What you'll be doing

Reporting to the Director, Registration & Exam Services (RES) the Registration Assessor (RA) determines whether applicants are eligible for registration with BCCNM, through application of the Health Professions Act (HPA), BCCNM bylaws, and policies. The RA provides information, direction, and advice to registration applicants. The RA is responsible for processing routine applications and identifies and escalates applications that give rise to further investigation/risk.


  • Assesses applicant credentials, education, and experience in order to determine applicant’s registration eligibility.
  • Ensures fair and consistent application of registration policies and bylaws in the assessment/investigation of routine applications for registration. When an assessment identifies an issue that may impact eligibility for registration, the RA escalates the file to the Triage team for further review and investigation.
  • Collaborates with other Registration team members to ensure that qualified applicants are registered in a timely manner.
  • Discusses application decisions with applicants and resolves issues with applicant registration files by determining missing application components and/or providing feedback and advice related to registration requirements and processes.
  • Develops, documents, and implements work processes related to the application and registration process.
  • Interprets registration policies, processes and bylaws for staff and applicants, registrants, and other stakeholders.

Your education & skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, administration, health administration, education or related area of discipline, or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience related to health regulation or administration.
  • Three to five years of experience working with legislation, bylaws, policies, and procedures.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge and experience using current versions of MS Office, MS CRM Dynamics, and MS SharePoint. Experience accessing web and search engines, and ability to adapt to organization-specific databases.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Proven ability to think critically and act appropriately while ensuring that policies, procedures, and standards are maintained.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate difficult decisions in a clear and logical manner.
  • Demonstrated conflict management and resolution skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in teams and independently.
  • Experience in an administrative, government or regulatory body environment is preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of diversity, inclusion, and cultural humility as they apply to nursing and midwifery practice and health care is an asset.
