The BC College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM) is seeking articulate, detail oriented and service-focussed individuals to join our team during our busy renewal period. During this period, BCCNM will renew the licensure of nursing professionals and midwives across BC. Working as a member of a dedicated Registration Program Team, the Renewal Assessor will determine whether nursing or midwifery applicants are eligible for renewal with BCCNM and provide direction and advice to applicants. 

This is a temporary, full-time position from January 4 to April 1, 2022.

BCCNM is the college empowered under the Health Professions Act to regulate the practice of all licensed practical nurses, nurse practitioners, registered midwives, registered nurses, and registered psychiatric nurses in British Columbia.     Our office is located at 200 Granville Street in Downtown Vancouver. Due to the pandemic, most of our team is currently working from home. In the future, as public health measures evolve, you will likely work both remotely and in the office.

    What you’ll be doing

    Through the application of the Health Professions Act (HPA), BCCNM bylaws, policies, and procedures the Renewal Assessor works as a member of the Registration Assessment team to determine whether applicants are eligible for registration with BCCNM and provides direction and advice to registration applicants. Where an applicant meets the registration requirements, the Renewal Assessor is responsible for issuing registration on behalf of the Registration Committee and Registrar.


    • As per BCCNM policies and procedures, assesses applicant credentials, education, and experience in order to determine registration eligibility for applicants. Acts as liaison with registrants who have specific queries about the renewal process.
    • Collaborates with other registration team members to ensure that qualified applicants are registered in a timely manner.
    • Discusses the application decision with applicants and resolves problems with applicant registration files by determining missing application components and/or providing feedback and advice related to meeting registration requirements.
    • Develops and documents work processes related to the application and registration process. Works with the College’s IT staff to ensure that the College’s registration database support the work of the registration team.
    • Ensures compliance with and identifies gaps in policies and procedures related to the applicant registration process in order to eliminate unnecessary barriers for applicants and registrants.
    • Works with the registration team to meet customer service targets such as processing time for new applicants.
    • Monitors progress of applicants in the registration and examination process and participates in activities to evaluate the processes.
    • Fosters and maintains an organizational culture that promotes mutual respect, teamwork, and service excellence.

    Your education & skills ​

    • Bachelor’s degree is an asset, or an equivalent combination of education and working experience.
    • A minimum of one to three years of experience working in customer service, preferably with some database, accounts, or case management experience
    • Intermediate to advanced knowledge and experience using current versions of MS Office, MS CRM Dynamics, and MS SharePoint. Familiar with accessing the web and search engines, and experience with organization-specific databases.
    • Excellent customer service skills
    • Proven ability to think critically and act appropriately while ensuring that policies, procedures, and standards are maintained
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate difficult decisions in a clear and logical manner
    • Demonstrated conflict management and resolution skills
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Strong written and oral communications skills
    • Ability to work effectively in teams
