RN/RPN prescribing standard revised

On Sept. 23, the BCCNM board approved revisions related to making a prescribing decision during a virtual care encounter when a visual assessment is not possible. These revisions are effective immediately.

Enrolling in PRIME: information for nurses and midwives

The Ministry of Health requires that all healthcare professionals using PharmaNet to deliver patient care participate in the PRIME program. This means nurses and midwives working in B.C. who use PharmaNet to care for patients will need to enrol in PRIME.

BCCNM has received reports of illegitimate COVID-19 vaccine exemption and deferral letters circulating in the community that are being used by British Columbians who cannot show proof of vaccine through the province’s BC Vaccine Card.

In May 2022, the Registered Psychiatric Nurse of Canada Examination (RPNCE) will transition from the current pencil-and-paper exam to a computer-based exam.

Inquiry, Discipline, and Monitoring updates


BCCNM publishes a variety of professional conduct notices on its website. These notices include consent agreements, Discipline Committee and Inquiry Committee notices, and Inquiry and Discipline hearing notices. While all of these notices are public information, only exceptional outcomes (e.g., Inquiry Committee order, Discipline order, hearing outcome) and circumstances (e.g., discipline hearing) are highlighted in registrant newsletters.
