What's new for renewal

The registration renewal period for midwives is on its way.

  • February 1, 2021: Registration renewal opens.
  • March 1, 2021 at 4:30 p.m.: Deadline for completion of your renewal application and payment of registration renewal fees.
  • March 31, 2021 at noon: Deadline for submission of required proof of continuing competencies certification or recertification.

JAN. 8, 2021

Three-year certification requirement extended

As part of their continuing competencies, practising midwives are typically required to recertify or complete courses—CPR, ES, FHS and NRP—on an established schedule. If you are a practising midwife and completed your certifications/ courses before April 1, 2018, we recommend attempting to complete this requirement before March 31, 2021.

Continuing professional development credits

Practising midwives are typically required to complete a minimum of 45 continuing professional development credits per 36-month cycle. However, we recognize that 2020 was an extremely challenging year for all health care providers—as such, any CPD credits accumulated over the past three years will be considered sufficient at time of registration renewal.

Fee on credit card payments to be temporarily removed

In October 2020, we announced that we would be adding a 2.5% convenience fee to credit card payments. In light of the limited options we can currently offer for non-credit card payment, we have decided to temporarily defer the collection of the 2.5% fee.

COVID-19 impact: guidance for educators

As the COVID-19 pandemic has evolved to become a longer-term issue, BCCNM continues to monitor the impact on nursing and midwifery education programs, faculty, and students. 

In response to directives from education institutions or health authorities, nursing and midwifery programs may be required to move to virtual instruction or to cancel classes, labs and/or student practice placements, as part of safeguarding patients, students, and faculty.
