On Aug. 23, 2024, a panel of the Inquiry Committee approved a consent agreement between BCCNM and the registrant to address practice deficits that occurred on or around January to March 2023 related to nursing competencies, adherence to policies for attendance and skills verification, communication with patients, attending to personal needs during work hours, and documenting and transcribing orders accurately.
The registrant was diagnosed with and admitted to a disability with a causal relationship to the practice issues. The registrant has actively and willingly engaged in treatment and has agreed to comply with the treatment recommendations ongoing.
The registrant has voluntarily agreed to terms equivalent to a limit and/or condition on their practice, including:
- Regular reports from treating physicians regarding compliance with treatment recommendations.
- Medical monitoring for 12 months, including regular reports that they remain compliant with this monitoring.
- Disclosure of treatment recommendations to relevant employer representative(s).
- A limit on being the sole RN on duty, mentoring staff or students, being in charge, and having more than one workplace.
- A robust orientation to their new place of employment.
- Remedial education related to professional communication, responsibility, and accountability.
- Supervision of their nursing practice for a minimum of 12 weeks to support the registrant in maintaining their fitness to practice and to delivery nursing care that is competent and safe.
- Developing a learning plan, which will be shared with their employer and with BCCNM.
The agreement will remain in place for a minimum of 18 months of continuous nursing practice.
The name of the registrant has been withheld in accordance with section 39.3 (4) (a) of the Health Professions Act for the purposes of not identifying a registrant or their personal health information respecting the condition that impaired their ability to practice nursing or midwifery.
The Inquiry Committee is satisfied that the terms will protect the public.
