File 2015-0112
Following one incident of narcotics diversion in the workplace in May 2017 (in which no impairment on-site occurred), and a breach of the terms of a consent agreement to monitor a health ailment impairing practise of the profession, a panel of the Inquiry Committee approved a Consent Agreement under which the Registrant consented to a:
- Reprimand for breaching terms of their current consent agreement;
- A limit on handling narcotics designed to prevent the circumstances leading to the practice concern from reoccurring, including:
|
| • In the first year of return to work, not handle, dispense or deal with wastage and breakage of any opioid or sedative medications. |
| • In the second year of an ongoing successful monitoring process, may begin to handle and dispense these medication if co-signed and formally logged in the medical records by another health professional. |
| • In the third year, barring any concerns, potentially return to unrestricted medication handling, but this would require an office re-evaluation by an occupational medicine physician. |
- Regular monitoring for fitness to practice nursing;
- Disclosure of treatment recommendations to relevant employer representative(s).
|
The Agreement will remain in place for a minimum of three years of continuous nursing practice.
The reasons for the Inquiry Committee’s decision are as follows:
1. | The Registrant made admissions and provided an independent medical assessment diagnosing a disability related to the conduct; and |
2. | The independent medical assessment identified the Registrant is fit to practice nursing, and provided information regarding compliance with treatment recommendations. |
