On April 6, 2018 a panel of the Inquiry Committee approved a Consent Agreement between CRNBC and Tiang Thien (Ron) CHAN of Vancouver.
Between August and September 2016, the Registrant threw two small objects at a vulnerable patient, repeatedly asked a colleague not to share information about the incident, and failed to provide a full account of his conduct to his employer and the regulator. The Registrant has voluntarily agreed to terms including:
i. | A four month suspension (that may be reduced to no less than two months upon completion of coursework in anger management and dementia care). |
ii. | A limit and condition for six months of practice precluding the Registrant from working as sole RN, and for nine months of practice precluding the Registrant from working in roles or on units in which more than 25% of the client or patient population is diagnosed with any form of mental illness or cognitive disease, including dementia. |
iii. | Within one month of return to practice, the Registrant will meet with a CRNBC Regulatory Practice Consultant to discuss the conduct issues outlined in this Agreement and establish a plan to ensure the conduct not be repeated. |
The Inquiry Committee is satisfied that the terms will protect the public.
