Consent agreement

Jun 16, 2016

Please note: This consent agreement was concluded by BCCNM on Nov. 17, 2020. All requirements have been met and the enduring limits noted below were removed on this same date of Nov. 17, 2020.

On June 16, 2016 a panel of the Inquiry Committee approved a Consent Agreement between CRNBC and Kia Charko (aka Simonsen) of Victoria, to remediate competence to practice issues related to: a broad lack of insight into her practice deficits and learning needs; challenges with organization and prioritization of her workload; displayed lack of critical thinking when collecting and interpreting patient data in planning and implementing patient care; some unsafe medication practices (particularly involving IV medications); inadequate documentation; and lack of awareness of a care plan and physician’s order for a patient under her care.

Additionally, the Registrant has voluntarily agreed to terms equivalent to an enduring limit on practice, which includes:

Terms
i.only work "in an area with lower acuity"
iiOnly working in a workplace environment that is "slower paced" where the Registrant "has the time to be able to effectively integrate incoming information";
iii.Not work in a position that entails the responsibilities of being in the "in-charge" role;
iv.If administering medications that require dose or rate calculations, or reconstitution (such as IV medications), the Registrant must obtain an independent second check from an appropriate regulated heath care professional prior to administration (who will confirm the correct medication order, drug preparation and administration process).
The Inquiry Committee is satisfied that these terms will protect the public.
