On July 4, 2017 a panel of the Inquiry Committee approved a Consent Agreement between CRNBC and Susan Ghitan of Victoria, BC, to remediate identified practice issues including administering Atropine and removing infection control precautions without an order, administering an incorrect insulin and an incorrect narcotic, forgetting to administer noontime insulin on at least two occasions, failing to act after under-dosing a palliative patient, and documenting on post-it notes rather than on the patient record.
The Registrant voluntarily agreed to terms equivalent to a six month/900 hour limit on practice, including limits on being the sole RN on duty, being unsupervised, and being in charge. The Registrant is required to have specific high alert medications double-checked and double-signed for the duration of the limit.
The Registrant agreed to a reprimand for her conduct in not taking appropriate steps after under-dosing a palliative patient, charting on post-it notes, and removing infection control precautions without an order. The Registrant will also complete educational coursework and sessions with a CRNBC regulatory practice consultant intended to ensure that her future conduct and competence is safe, competent and ethical.
The Inquiry Committee is satisfied that the terms will protect the public.
