On November 20, 2020 a panel of the Inquiry Committee approved a Consent Agreement between BCCNP and former registrant Sandra Moreno of Vancouver, to remediate practice issues related to the mishandling of medications and inadequate documentation. Specifically, over a nine-month period in 2018, Ms. Moreno withdrew medication without a physician’s order, mishandled controlled substances, and other medications. Ms. Moreno engaged with investigation and expressed remorse for her actions.
Ms. Moreno has voluntarily agreed to terms equivalent to a condition on practice, including: A reprimand; a 12-month prohibition from working in critical care, emergency nursing, oncology, palliative care, post-operative care, burn unit, or any other practise environment in which she is required to care for patients with complex pain; a nine-month period of supervision in the workplace; and completion of remedial education on Documentation: A Critical Aspect of Client Care; Righting A Wrong: Ethics & Professionalism in Nursing, Medication Errors: Causes & Prevention, and Empathy 101 for nurses: how to care for yourself while emotionally supporting others.
The Inquiry Committee is satisfied that the terms will protect the public.
