Consent agreement

Oct 26, 2023

On Oct. 26, 2023, a panel of the Inquiry Committee approved a Consent Agreement between BCCNM and the Registrant to address issues that occurred between May 20, 2021, and Jan. 25, 2022, and related to responsibility and accountability, narcotic handling and documentation, medication administration, and fitness to practice. The Registrant was diagnosed with and admitted to a disability with a causal relationship to the practice issues via an independent medical report and has agreed to comply with treatment recommendations.

The Registrant has voluntarily agreed to terms equivalent to a limit on their practice, including:

  1. A Gradual Return to Work (GRTW) with a robust reorientation to the workplace;

  2. Six months of biological monitoring and 24 months of medical monitoring;

  3. Six months of supervised access to narcotics, with concurrent medical monitoring, to support the stable return to fitness to practice;

  4. Six months of practice limits: the Registrant will not work in the In Charge position of her unit, will not supervise nursing students, and will not orientate new staff members to the workplace;

  5. Six months of indirect practice supervision;

  6. Remedial education in professional standards, documentation, and understanding the medication practice standard;

  7. Develop a Learning Plan, which will be shared with their supervisor and with BCCNM;

  8. Complete a Regulatory Practice Consultation to address the foundational issues underpinning this Agreement; and

  9. Commit to request practice support as needed and self-regulate with regard to fitness to practice.

The Agreement will remain in place for a minimum of 36 months of continuous nursing practice.

The name of the Registrant has been withheld in accordance with section 39.3 (4) (a) of the Health Professions Act for the purposes of not identifying the personal health information of the Registrant respecting the condition.

The Inquiry Committee is satisfied that the terms will protect the public.
