On Feb. 20, 2024, a panel of the Inquiry Committee approved a consent agreement between BCCNM and Mithra Bahrami Corniel, Licensed Practical Nurse, to address conduct arising from her failure to adhere to the provisions of an in-force consent agreement. Specifically, Ms. Bahrami Corniel's consent agreement required her to limit her practice of nursing and to disclose relevant terms to her current and/or new employer(s). She did not adhere to her practise limitation and did not inform her employer of the relevant terms. The registrant informed BCCNM that she had disclosed the terms of her consent agreement to the employer when she had not.
Ms. Bahrami Corniel's actions served to frustrate the ability of BCCNM to monitor and ensure her safe, competent, and ethical nursing practice. The registrant's breach of her consent agreement was not inadvertent and the conduct that breached her consent agreement extended over a lengthy period.
BCCNM requires that registrants in consent agreements comply with all of the terms to which they have agreed in order to consensually resolve a complaint about their nursing practice. The failure to do so is a serious matter that undermines BCCNM's ability to protect the public and serves to erode the public's trust in a self-regulating profession.
The registrant has voluntarily agreed to terms equivalent to a limit and/or condition on their practice, including:
a) A reprimand and a suspension of their nursing registration for four weeks.
b) Remedial education in the subject area of ethical practice.
The Inquiry Committee is satisfied that the terms will protect the public.
