On April 3, 2024, a panel of the Inquiry Committee approved a Consent Agreement between BCCNM and Andrea Murphy, RN of Kitimat, B.C., to address practice issues that occurred between December 2020 and March 2023 related to inaccurate nursing assessments and documentation, non-compliance with standard documentation practices, non-adherence to narcotic handling policies, and a lack of clinical nursing judgement in caring for acute patients.
The registrant has voluntarily agreed to terms equivalent to a limit and/or condition on their practice, including:
Supervision of their nursing practice for three months.
A reprimand for acting outside her scope of practice as a registered nurse when transferring a patient to a higher level of care without physician involvement.
Developing a learning plan, which will be shared with their employer and with BCCNM.
A limit prohibiting them from being the sole RN on site for two months, or from providing regulatory oversight to student nurses and/or orientation to new staff for three months.
The Inquiry Committee is satisfied that the terms will protect the public.
