B.C.'s state of emergency extended: BCCNM response

Jul 9, 2020

From BCCNM Registrar & CEO Cynthia Johansen

The premier has announced the province-wide emergency has been extended until July 21, 2020, and the public health emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic declared by the Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, remains in place. As such, BCCNM's processes to support both the province-wide emergency and public health emergency will continue.

This continuation will assist the province in managing the province-wide consequences of the shutdown (or reduction) in many health services for several weeks in the second quarter of 2020. Our process for an emergency response to the pandemic will continue until such time as we have assurances from the Ministry of Health that we can relax or end these supports.

I'd also like to thank all the nurses and other health care providers for their ongoing commitment to bringing B.C. through this pandemic with skill and fortitude. Your leadership and service are valued and celebrated.

Temporary emergency registration

Temporary emergency registration (LPN, NP, RN, RPN) will remain in place to assist with the significant surgical backlogs experienced throughout the provincial health system and to support other COVID-19 related activities like contact tracing.

Contacting BCCNM

The BCCNM office will remain closed to the public for in-person services until the end of August, when we will reassess. Our staff are working remotely, meaning the best way to reach us is by email or fax.

If you must send BCCNM something, couriers and deliveries can be received between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday to Friday. Please call 604-561-0165 to make arrangements. If visiting our office absolutely cannot be avoided, please contact the employee you are hoping to speak with to make arrangements. We thank you for your patience as we adjust to this new way of working.

Please note: notarized documents for applications can be scanned and emailed to register@bccnm.ca.
