Revised RN and RPN scope of practice standards approved by BCCNM board

Sep 24, 2020

The BCCNM board on Sep. 24, 2020 approved two revised scope of practice standards for both RNs and RPNs: Acting Within Autonomous Scopeof Practice and Acting With Client-Specific Orders. These revised standards come into effect Oct. 26, 2020.

These standards harmonize principles for LPN, RN, and RPN practice while recognizing differences in scopes of practice. Principles within the current standards are retained since they continue to be relevant to public protection and some new principles have been added to support safe nursing practice.  The revisions were made in consultation with registrants and incorporate current evidence.
