BCCNM releases results of complaints process review

Apr 19, 2023

BCCNM in March 2022 issued a Request for Proposals to review the college's current complaints process to reflect the principles of cultural safety, cultural humility, and anti-racism. In June 2022, the contract was awarded to Novatone Consulting. We are pleased today to be releasing the final report, Looking Back to Look Forward: How Indigenous ways of being, knowing, and doing must inform the BCCNM feedback process and reflect principles of cultural safety, cultural humility, and anti-racism.

Review of BCCNM complaints process

BCCNM Senior Leadership have spent the past three months reviewing the report's 13 recommendations, which have now been incorporated into BCCNM's Commitment to Action Plan for 2023-2024.

The recommendations cover three broad areas: process changes, establishing relationships, and introducing a program of mandatory learning. Some of the recommendations being immediately implemented include recruiting an Indigenous person to join our Inquiry, Discipline & Monitoring team to support Indigenous people making a complaint to the college, to help guide the work to embed cultural safety and anti-racism into our processes, and to assist with building partnerships.
