Honouring the lives lost and offering our deepest sympathy

Apr 28, 2025

Our hearts go out to the victims and families affected by the tragic incident at the Lapu-Lapu Street Festival in Vancouver on Saturday. This senseless act has deeply impacted our community, and we extend our sincere condolences during this incredibly difficult time.

Lapu-Lapu Day honours Filipino Indigenous leader Datu Lapu-Lapu, who fought against Spanish colonization. Lapu-Lapu Day is a celebration of Filipino culture and heritage, and our thoughts are with our Filipino friends and neighbours who have been so profoundly affected by this tragic event.

A heartfelt thank you to the first responders and health-care professionals who have been working tirelessly to provide care and support to those affected. We are thinking, too, of the many Filipino nurses who play a vital role in B.C.’s health-care system. Your courage and compassion are deeply appreciated during this challenging time.
