Results from the nurse survey
From June 3 to June 24 2026, BCCNM invited LPNs, RNs, RPNs, NPs, and other regulators to share their insights on proposed updates to the
Nurses: Conflict of Interest ethics standard. This survey had a total of 209 respondents.
What we heard

Most respondents agreed that the proposed revised ethics standard is relevant and realistic to nursing practice and supports safe and ethical care.

Most respondents are aware of BCCNM's current learning resources for nurses on conflict of interest on BCCNM's website.

Most respondents work in clinical-urban, clinical-rural, and non-clinical settings.

Some respondents highlighted unique considerations for nurses working in rural, remote, small-knit and Indigenous communities as well as comments on giving and receiving gifts, industry, self-employment considerations, and disclosure.

From June 3 to June 24 2026, BCCNM invited midwives to share their insights on proposed updates to the
Midwives: Conflict of Interest ethics standard. This survey had a total of 25 respondents.

Most respondents agreed that the proposed revised ethics standard is clear and easy to understand, supports safe and ethical care, and is relevant and realistic to midwifery practice.

Respondents expressed interest in learning supports to help midwives apply the standard in their practice and prefer the modalities of frequently asked questions, case studies, and learning modules.

Most respondents work in urban and rural settings.

Some respondents highlighted unique considerations for midwives working in rural, remote, small-knit and Indigenous communities as well as comments on personal relationships, disclosure, and gifts.
