The former BCCNP Board on August 14, 2020
approved and filed with the Minister of Health a bylaw amendment withdrawing recognition of the Canadian Health Care Academy's practical nursing education programs.
The BCCNM Board on August 18, 2020
approved and posted a revision of the proposed initial bylaws for BCCNM. In light of the former BCCNP Board's August 14th decision, the revised BCCNM bylaws posted on August 18th included provisions to temporarily continue CHCA's practical nursing education program recognition as of September 1, 2020, while providing that CHCA's programs will be removed from Schedule B of BCCNM's bylaws effective on October 16, 2020.
BCCNM's revised initial bylaws, as posted on August 18th, were given final approval by the BCCNM Board on August 28, 2020, and submitted to the Minister of Health.
Ministerial Order 325/2020 was approved on August 31, 2020, specifying a shortened notice period for BCCNM's initial bylaws under section 19(6.2) of the
Health Professions Act. The Minister did not disallow the amendment filed on August 14th by the former BCCNP Board.
On September 1, 2020, the former BCCNP and the former College of Midwives of BC
amalgamated to become BCCNM. On that date, the bylaws of the former BCCNP were repealed and the initial bylaws of BCCNM took effect immediately, by operation of section 25.05(1) of the
Health Professions Act.
The BCCNM bylaws, as now in effect, are available
here. These new bylaws temporarily continue CHCA's program recognition until October 15, 2020.
Effective on Friday, October 16, 2020, CHCA's practical nursing education programs (generic and access) will be removed from Schedule B of the BCCNM bylaws, by operation of section 88 of those bylaws.
This completes the withdrawal of CHCA's program recognition that was commenced by the former BCCNP Board on
May 8, 2020.
