The BCCNM board on Sep. 24, 2020 approved a minor update to the
Medical Assistance in Dying standard for nurse practitioners.
This change takes effect immediately.
Standard 8c removes the requirement that nurse practitioners acting as an assessor or assessor-provider can only accept an in-person capacity assessment from another health professional. Nurse practitioners can now accept whatever is considered appropriate by the other professional's regulatory college.
This change aligns with provincial standards and supports nurse practitioners who are providing medical assistance in dying through the COVID public health emergency.
