Revised LPN scope of practice standards approved by BCCNM board

The BCCNM board on Sep. 24, 2020 approved revised scope of practice standards for LPNs: Acting Within Autonomous Scope of Practice and Acting With Client-Specific Orders. These new standards replace the previous Acting without an Orderand Acting with an Order scope of practice standards and will come into effect Oct. 26, 2020.

These revised standards harmonize principles for LPN, RN, and RPN practice, while recognizing differences in scopes of practice. Principles within the current standards were retained since they continue to be relevant for public protection and some new principles were added to support safe nursing practice. The revisions were made in consultation with registrants and incorporate current evidence.

Oct. 1 scope changes

A reminder to registrants that the previous set of revisions to LPN scope come into effect Oct. 1, 2020.
