Changes to continuing competency requirement for practising midwives

Jan 9, 2023

We have updated our continuing competency requirements for practising midwives. The changes take effect immediately and will be reflected when practising registrants renew their registration this year.

No more uploads

Practising midwives will now be asked to attest to having earned the required competencies on their renewal application, rather than submitting copies of the certificate(s). Registrants are required to retain proof of certification for their records in the event that continuing competencies are audited. This change is also applicable to former registrants who are applying to reinstate their practising registration within 60 days of it lapsing.

Please note: Individuals applying for reinstatement more than 60 days after their registration has lapsed will be required to submit certificates in order to meet the continuing competencies requirement.

Online courses accepted

Practising registrants may now complete versions of approved courses in the Policy on Continuing Competencies that are delivered entirely online.
