Certification requirements for midwives: Returning to pre-pandemic schedule

Oct 3, 2022

As part of their continuing competencies, practising midwives are required to recertify or complete courses on an established schedule (see below). In recognition of the difficulty of completing in-person education due to COVID-19 pandemic, the certification requirements were temporarily changed to completion every three years for registration renewal in 2021 and 2022.

In 2023, the continuing competencies requirement will return to the typical schedule. You can learn more about the continuing competencies requirement in the Policy on continuing competencies

Do you need to recertify?

If you are a practising midwife, check the chart below to ensure you will be able to renew your registration in 2023. You will need to recertify if any of your certificates expire prior to April 1, 2023

If you need to recertify, we recommend that you register and/or complete the required course(s) as soon as possible.
