BCCNM is introducing a series of self directed e-learning modules—From Awareness to Action: Indigenous Cultural Safety, Cultural Humility, and Anti-Racism learning series—to further support nurses and midwives to understand and apply the Indigenous Cultural Safety, Cultural Humility, and Anti-Racism practice standard in your practice.
A total of six e-learning modules will be introduced in two phases.
In 2022, BCCNM, in partnership with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC, introduced the Indigenous Cultural Safety, Cultural Humility, and Anti-Racism practice standard for nurses and midwives. The practice standard sets clear expectations for how nurses and midwives must provide culturally safe and anti-racist care for Indigenous Peoples. To support nurses and midwives in your learning journey, BCCNM has a video series, the Indigenous Cultural Safety, Cultural Humility, and Anti-racism Practice Standard Companion Guide, and a curated list of third-party learning resources.
Through the From Awareness to Action: Indigenous Cultural Safety, Cultural Humility and Anti-Racism learning series, nurses and midwives will have the opportunity to increase your awareness of the practice standard, reflect on your own learning journey, and understand your professional responsibilities. The modules also highlight ways in which you can address racism and discrimination and provide person-led, safe, humble, and trauma-informed health care for Indigenous Peoples.
We are grateful for the support we received from Indigenous consultants and key audiences in guiding us through this important work.
If you have any questions or feedback on the learning modules, please email culturalsafety@bccnm.ca.

Reminder: Once you complete these modules, you can include them as part of your professional development and self assessment work to meet the annual QA requirements.
