BCCNM standards reviewed and revised ahead of HPOA

Mar 4, 2026

As part of BCCNM's transition to the Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA), the college has reviewed and revised all of our standards to ensure compliance with the Act and the associated regulations.

Some of the standards underwent non‑substantive changes (formatting, updated titles, categorization as “practice" or “ethics," and removal of outdated or learning‑resource content). Others are new or required significant revision to meet HPOA requirements (e.g., delegation and regulatory supervision standards).

We invite you to review the revised standards—they will all come into effect April 1, 2026:

We also give thanks for the medicines of these territories and recognize that laws, governance, and health systems tied to these lands and waters have existed here for over 9000 years.

We also acknowledge the unique and distinct rights, including rights to health and wellness, of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples from elsewhere in Canada who now live in British Columbia. As leaders in the settler health system, we acknowledge our responsibilities to these rights under international, national, and provincial law.
