Expression of interest: Midwifery peer review program

BCCNM’s Quality Assurance program is seeking a qualified midwife consultant on a short-term contract basis to assist in development of the midwifery peer review program. This program involves an assessment of documentation conducted by a peer assessor and focuses on identifying opportunities for practice improvement and continuing professional development. The initial deliverables focus on developing a midwife-specific indicator framework and applying it to midwife workflows and practice settings. The contract timeline is expected to be up to one year in length.

Scope of Work

We are seeking to contract a consultant with the following skills and abilities to inform the program’s development and to complete specific deliverables supporting program implementation:

  • Registered Midwife qualification with demonstrated practice experience across a range of settings and populations in British Columbia.
  • Knowledge of competency assessment tool and process development.
  • Knowledge of conducting professional performance assessments, conflict resolution and facilitation/coaching.
  • Knowledge of midwifery documentation practices across a range of practice settings, including use of electronic medical records.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply research processes and methodologies to support evidence-informed decision-making, recognize and analyze trends, and to critically evaluate processes.​

Deliverables

  • Development of practice review indicators and reporting templates based on BCCNM midwifery standards and entry-level competencies.
  • Identification of resources to support registrant’s self-directed learning
  • Prepare a workflow diagram of midwifery service delivery as it pertains to documentation of client care
  • Advise on considerations for program delivery, engagement materials and feedback mechanisms

Interested midwives should submit a resume and expression of interest outlining:

  • An overview of your experience and expertise in meeting the stated skills and abilities
  • any examples of previous work related to this expression of interest
  • estimated timeline for completing the initial deliverables, and anticipated start date
  • hourly or daily rate and anticipated expenses.
