Rodriguez, Ma Theresa (Maria), RN

Consent agreement

Sep 21, 2025

On Sept. 21, 2025, a panel of the Inquiry Committee approved a consent agreement between BCCNM and Ma Theresa (Maria) Rodriguez of Abbotsford, B.C., to address practice issues that occurred from November to December 2023. The issues were related to the registrant not appropriately or at all conducting nursing assessments for three patients, per workplace policies and BCCNM standards.

The conduct was unsatisfactory with respect to the following professional and practice standards that BCCNM set for registered nurses:

  1. Documentation
  2. Duty to Provide Care
  3. Client-focused Provision of Service
  4. Knowledge-based Practice
  5. Ethical Practice
  6. Professional Responsibility and Accountability

BCCNM standards set expectations to ensure nurses are practising competently, ethically, responsibly, and safely. Nurses are accountable for their nursing decisions, actions, and professional conduct. Nurses must ensure that they meet these standards in providing care to patients.

The registrant has voluntarily agreed to terms equivalent to a limit and/or condition on her practice, including:

  1. Suspension of registration for three days;
  2. Meeting with a BCCNM Standards and Guidance Consultant to discuss circumstances that led to the complaint, and create a learning plan to prevent similar conduct from occurring in the future.
  3. Remedial education in documentation and critical thinking skills.

The Inquiry Committee is satisfied that the terms will address the professional and practice concerns that arose and will protect the public.
