Unregistered practitioners
In B.C., nurses and midwives must hold current practising registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Only current practising registrants may use the title of nurse or midwife and practice that profession.
From time to time, BCCNM receives reports of individuals who may be engaging in unauthorized practice by providing nursing or midwifery services or using the titles without authorization to do so. As unauthorized practice can lead to public safety risks, BCCNM actively investigates and pursues individuals who engage in unauthorized practice.
Employers can use the search for a nurse tool to verify the registration status of every nurse they employ directly or through an agency.
Expectant parents are strongly encouraged to use the search for a midwife tool to verify that their chosen provider is registered with BCCNM.
You can also contact BCCNM if you have questions about an individual's registration status.
Reporting unregistered practice
We encourage individuals aware of unauthorized practitioners to report them to BCCNM. We are in a position to take action against such individuals, including taking legal action. Should you wish to make a report, please email complaints@bccnm.ca.
The following names represent only those individuals who have come to the attention of BCCNM. Contact us if you are aware of any of these individuals actively seeking employment or working in the nursing or midwifery profession.
