On March 12, 2026, a panel of the Inquiry Committee approved a consent agreement between BCCNM and Marilyn Mallari-Harteveld of Port Coquitlam, B.C., to address practice and conduct issues related to acting without client-specific orders, inappropriate use and access of colleagues' confidential information when not in a care relationship, and inappropriate communicable disease prevention and control methods.
The conduct was unsatisfactory, with respect to the following professional and practice standards that BCCNM set:
- Scope of Practice for RNs,
- Boundaries in the Nurse-Client Relationship,
- Communicable Diseases: Preventing Nurse to Client Transmission,
- Consent
- Ethical Practice,
- Knowledge-based Practice, and
- Professional Responsibility and Accountability.
BCCNM standards set expectations to ensure nurses are practising competently, ethically, responsibly, and safely. Nurses are accountable for their nursing decisions, actions, and professional conduct. Nurses must meet these standards in providing care to patients.
The registrant has voluntarily agreed to a three-week suspension of her registration for breaching the above standards.
The Inquiry Committee is satisfied that the terms will address the issues and protect the public.
