On March 20, 2014 a panel of the Inquiry Committee approved a Consent Agreement between CRNBC and Susan D’Aloisio, of Vancouver, BC (the “Registrant”), under which the Registrant has agreed to undertakings equivalent to conditions on the Registrant’s practice of nursing.
The Registrant has consented to a reprimand resulting from her admitted conduct of falsifying patients’ vital signs over at least a seven year period, and undertakes not to repeat the conduct. The Registrant has also agreed to maintain non-practising status with CRNBC and not to apply for reinstatement of practising registration until successful completion of the following undertakings:
- a review of the CRNBC Professional Standards for registered nurses, including the Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses;
- a CRNBC practice support consultation to discuss and review the conduct in relation to the Standards of Practice expected of a registered nurse including a discussion on the impact of the admitted behaviour on the BCCA, and the potential impact on patients;
- remedial education to address the practice concerns related to documentation;
- submission of a reflective essay.
After completion of the above, the Registrant’s reinstatement of practising registration will be subject to a condition that she will not practise again in the area of research, and will be subject to the following further conditions:
- the Registrant will not practise in any setting where she is the sole registered nurse on duty, in a nursing position that involves direct patient assessment and documentation;
- the Registrant will be supervised for all patient assessments and assessment documentation;
- the Registrant may apply to the Inquiry Committee for removal of conditions i. and ii. above after receipt by CRNBC of a performance appraisal, following completion of the equivalent of a minimum of 6 months of continuous nursing practice, that does not identify any concerns with respect to professional conduct or competence or compliance with Professional Standards.
The Registrant has also agreed to submit performance appraisals to CRNBC following completion of the equivalent of 6, 12, 18 and 24 months of continuous nursing practice. The Inquiry Committee is satisfied that the undertakings will protect the public.
