Consent agreement

Nov 30, 2021

On November 30, 2021, a panel of the Inquiry Committee approved a Consent Agreement between BCCNM and Laveena Vandewetering of Kamloops, B.C. to address practice issues that occurred between December 1 and December 4, 2020, and related to the Registrant's failure to follow a physician's order and notify the physician when a resident's blood glucose measurement was above 20 mmol/L. This failure to notify the physician occurred on eight occasions.

The Registrant has voluntarily agreed to terms equivalent to a limit and condition on their practice, including:

a.

A reprimand;

b.

Remedial education in documentation, professional standards, sharpening critical thinking skills and insulin/diabetes management;

c.

A limit prohibiting them from working as the sole nurse on duty or providing regulatory supervision to nursing students for three months;

d.

Indirect supervision of their nursing practice for three months.

The Inquiry Committee is satisfied that the terms will protect the public.
