Anderson, Lara, RN

Consent agreement

Mar 29, 2023

On March 29, 2023, a panel of the Inquiry Committee approved a Consent Agreement between BCCNM and Lara Anderson, RN, of Maple Ridge, B.C., to address practice issues that occurred between September and December 2021 and related to a lack of client follow-up, handover, and communication to members of the care team, lack of documentation, and difficulty accepting support and feedback regarding her practice showing little professional accountability.

The Registrant has voluntarily agreed to terms equivalent to a limit and/or condition on their practice, including:

  1. A suspension of their nursing registration for two weeks;
  2. A reprimand resulting from not adhering to standards related to documentation and professional communication, and for not being receptive to constructive feedback from colleagues in a professional manner;
  3. A limit prohibiting them from: working in a highly autonomous environment (such as home care or public health), being the sole RN on duty, having more than one employer, having more than one unit or area of work, floating from their position, regulatory oversight of students, providing mentorship or orientation to staff, or being in charge;
  4. Direct and Indirect supervision of their nursing practice for 12 months;
  5. Remedial education in documentation, ethics, professional communication, critical thinking, conflict resolution, and sensitivity training;
  6. Developing a learning plan, which will be shared with their employer and with BCCNM; and
  7. A regulatory practice consulting program to address the foundational issues underpinning the Agreement.

The Inquiry Committee is satisfied that the terms will protect the public.
