Smith, Heather, RN

Consent agreement

Dec 28, 2023

On Dec. 28, 2023, a panel of the Inquiry Committee approved a Consent Agreement between BCCNM and Heather Smith of Delta, B.C., to address practice issues that occurred in February of 2023 related to her failure to establish a therapeutic and professional relationship with a patient and their family member, failing to monitor a hypotensive, hypovolemic patient's blood loss and blood pressure, inappropriately delegating assessment of blood loss to an unregulated care provider, and failing to adequately assess and document the patient's pain level and the effectiveness of pain medication administered.

The Registrant has voluntarily agreed to the following terms:

a) A reprimand for their conduct;

b) Remedial education related to documentation, trauma-informed practice, professional standards, medications, and sensitivity training; and

c) Meeting with a BCCNM Standards Consultant to discuss their learnings related to trauma informed practice.

The Inquiry Committee is satisfied that the terms will protect the public.
