Communicating Problems:
Choosing Strategies

Building on Experience

There are so many ways to communicate. In the past we relied upon verbal and written documentation but increasingly we are using electronic communication, particularly e-mail, to tell our stories and share information.

It is a myth to think that electronic communication is private. Have you ever:

  • received a message via email that was not intended for you? What happened?
  • composed and sent a message that you realized later was not appropriate?

Defining the purpose of your communication will help you to select the most appropriate strategy and it will also help you to focus the content of your message.
