Who in My Organization Do I Talk to About the Problem?

Purpose
This worksheet will assist you to identify the leaders in your organization that you will want to talk to about the professional practice problem that you face.

Procedure
Complete each step in the process identified below and obtain feedback from a colleague to ensure accurate analysis of the organizational chart and correct identification of the most appropriate leader to assist you with your professional practice problem.

Step 1: Review the Organizational Chart

  • Find the organizational chart that represents the departments and levels of leadership people in your organization.
  • Consider the levels of communication in your organization.
  • Write the names of the individuals in each level who need to be notified or to be actively involved at various stages of the problem solving and resolution process.

Step 2: Inform Your Manager

  • Inform your manager that you will notify them about the problem.
  • Determine what steps you will take in notifying them of the problem.
  • Communicate with your leader.
  • Document your communication including the date, time and actions taken.

Follow up on your communication in a reasonable period of time.
