AUGUST 2026

Unshakeable confidence in nursing and midwifery care

Survey: Currency requirements for midwives

BCCNM is surveying midwives about potential changes to currency requirements to understand the impact of the options being considered. We are also continuing early work on licensure and currency options for midwives not engaged in clinical practice, with more information expected later in 2026. We remain committed to a process that balances public protection with flexibility and fairness for midwives across all practice contexts.

All responses are anonymous and confidential. The survey should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. The survey will close on Aug. 14.

Bylaw consultations

BCCNM is proposing amendments to the Midwives: Screening and Diagnostic Tests and Imaging and Midwives: Medications and Substances practice standards in anticipation of proposed changes to the Nurses and Midwives Regulation. These regulatory changes are not yet in effect. Comments on the proposed amendments must be received by Sep. 5, 2026.

Discipline and public notices

BCCNM publishes a variety of professional conduct notices on its website. These notices include criminal record review non-compliance, consent agreements, Investigation Committee notices, summary protection orders, and discipline notices. While all of these notices are public information, only exceptional outcomes (i.e., Investigation Committee order, discipline order) and circumstances (i.e., discipline hearing) are highlighted in the licensee newsletters.
