Revisions to Consultation, Referral, and Transfer of Care

The BCCNM board approved a revised Consultation, Referral, and Transfer of Care practice standard and corresponding revisions to the midwives' Standards of Practice. Effective Dec. 1, 2025.

Midwifery guidelines rescinded

The BCCNM board rescinded the Guideline for Participating in Social Media, Guideline for Using Electronic Communications to Transmit Client Information, Personal Information Protection Act Requirements, and Policy on Reporting a Child in the Need of Protection. Effective Dec. 1, 2025.

Prescription pad order deadline is Dec. 15

Check your prescription pad supply to ensure you have enough pads to last until the new year. Pad orders will not be processed between Dec. 16, 2025, and Jan. 5, 2026.

Five-year anniversary of In Plain Sight

This November marks five years since the release of the In Plain Sight report. The report investigated the extent of Indigenous-specific racism in B.C.’s health-care system and highlighted the devastating, ongoing impact and the tragic health outcomes for Indigenous families and communities in the province.

Seeking feedback on draft HPOA bylaws

In preparation for the Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA) coming into force on April 1, 2026, BCCNM is redrafting its bylaws to align with the new provisions in the HPOA. We are seeking feedback from members of the public, registrants (licensees), health partners, and Indigenous leaders on the draft bylaws.

Research findings: Provider responsibilities in client care and access

In October 2025, BCCNM conducted a registrant survey and hosted four virtual focus groups with nursing and midwifery registrants to support the Provider Responsibilities in Client Care and Access policy project. Thank you to everyone who took part. We are pleased to share what we learned.
