MARCH 2024

Unshakeable confidence in nursing and midwifery care

Acknowledge. Practice. Share.

BCCNM's commitment to ensuring all Indigenous Peoples in B.C. receive culturally safe and timely care influences everything we do. And we are on this journey together. The Indigenous Cultural Safety, Cultural Humility, and Anti-Racism practice standard highlights core concepts and requirements for nurses and midwives. Resources are available to help acknowledge, learn, and apply the standard.

Survey: Draft Out-of-hospital Perinatal Care practice standard

We are proposing a practice standard for out-of-hospital (OOH) perinatal care. This would replace current home birth standards and guidelines. Your feedback on the draft standard will help ensure there are clear expectations for midwives in OOH settings. Survey closes March 22, 2024.

Scams targeting internationally educated nurse (IEN) applicants

We have become aware that IENs applying for registration in B.C. are being targeted by a scam. The person applying for registration must complete and submit the application. IEN applicants should use caution when getting assistance from others.

Inquiry, Discipline, and Monitoring updates

BCCNM publishes a variety of professional conduct notices on its website. These notices include consent agreements, Discipline Committee and Inquiry Committee notices, and Inquiry and Discipline hearing notices. While all of these notices are public information, only exceptional outcomes (i.e., Inquiry Committee order, Discipline order, hearing outcome) and circumstances (i.e., discipline hearing) are highlighted in registrant newsletters.

Office closed

BCCNM's office will be closed on Friday, March 29 and Monday, April 1. We will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2.
