Unshakeable confidence in nursing and midwifery care
Revisions to delegation practice
To further clarify the requirements for nurses and nurse practitioners to follow when delegating care to unregulated care providers, the board approved revisions to this practice standard. The standard will also apply to RPNs. These changes take effect March 1.
Cultural safety & humility video series: Self-reflective practice
To help nurses and midwives understand and apply the Indigenous Cultural Safety, Cultural Humility and Anti-Racism practice standard, BCCNM collaborated with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC on a series of videos. This month, we're highlighting the video on self-reflective practice.
BCCNM board elects chair and vice chair
At its Jan. 26 meeting, the board elected Tanya Momtazian, midwife, as Board Chair. Pinder Cheema, public member, was re-elected as Vice Chair. Each year, the board elects members for these one-year positions. Congratulations, Tanya and Pinder!
BCCNM bylaw amendments—multijurisdictional registration
The proposed bylaw amendments are on the BCCNM website. We are accepting feedback until May 4.
It's important to know that multijurisdictional registration is not yet available. There are several steps that must still occur. We will keep registrants, members of the public, and our partners apprised of our progress.
BC Gov shares FAQs on the Health Professions and Occupations Act
The Health Professions and Occupations Act passed Royal Assent in the BC Legislative Assembly on November 24, 2022. While the legislation has passed, the Act is not in force. The new Act will come into force at a future date through regulation of the Lieutenant Governor in Council. At this time, the Health Professions Act continues to be the legislation that governs health professionals and regulatory colleges.
Inquiry, Discipline, and Monitoring updates
BCCNM publishes a variety of professional conduct notices on its website. These notices include consent agreements, Discipline Committee and Inquiry Committee notices, and Inquiry and Discipline hearing notices. While all of these notices are public information, only exceptional outcomes (i.e., Inquiry Committee order, Discipline order, hearing outcome) and circumstances (i.e., discipline hearing) are highlighted in registrant newsletters.
BCCNM's office will be closed on Monday, Feb. 20 for Family Day. We will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21.
