Keegan's story: lessons & learnings

We are pleased to share Remembering Keegan: a BC First Nations Case Study Reflection, released publicly and gifted in ceremony on Feb. 21, 2022. Keegan Combes of Skwah First Nation was a high school graduate, a grade-10 pianist, and a chess champion, who was enrolled in a trades college at the time of his death from accidental poisoning.

The case study reflection is the first of its kind shared by B.C. First Nations and is intended to help shape the quality of care for all Indigenous people in B.C. and across the country, and to prevent this from happening to anyone else.

Virtual care

Danny is a nurse in a community mental health unit that offers in-person and virtual (phone or video) appointments for clients. Joe has been a client at the clinic for about two years and has a well-established relationship with Danny and his mental health team. Joe has access to the technology needed to participate in a virtual health encounter.

Medical aesthetics

BCCNM has revised the scope of practice limits and conditions for nurses practising in the area of medical aesthetics. If you are a nurse who provides medical aesthetics to clients, you'll want to check out this new section of the website. On this page, we clarify key regulatory terms and concepts as well as share FAQs related to medical aesthetics.

Are you interested in serving on a BCCNM committee?

We are currently accepting applications for BCCNM's regulatory committees, for terms beginning Feb. 1, 2023. In particular, we are encouraging applications from Indigenous people; members from racialized and marginalized groups; individuals identifying as LGBTQ2S+; and individuals with lived experience of physical, cognitive, or mental health conditions, or their caregivers.

Deadline to apply is Sept. 30, 2022.

Inquiry, Discipline, and Monitoring updates

BCCNM publishes a variety of professional conduct notices on its website. These notices include consent agreements, Discipline Committee and Inquiry Committee notices, and Inquiry and Discipline hearing notices. While all of these notices are public information, only exceptional outcomes (i.e., Inquiry Committee order, Discipline order, hearing outcome) and circumstances (i.e., discipline hearing) are highlighted in registrant newsletters.
