On December 30, 2014, CRNBC received a letter of complaint indicating that Registrant Justine Morrison of Langley, BC, a recent graduate, had been struggling to meet practice standards in the Surgery Program at Peace Arch Hospital in the time period from March 2014 to December 2014.
When these issues were raised with the Registrant by the employer in October 2014, she voluntarily removed herself from practice to seek additional education. She completed a Competency Assessment & Enhancement for Nurses (CAEN) in which no significant gaps in her practise were identified, but a consolidated clinical course was recommended. In October 2014, the Registrant contacted CRNBC to report that she had already enrolled in these courses.
On January 6, 2016 a panel of the Inquiry Committee approved a Consent Agreement equivalent to conditions and/or limits on registration requiring the Registrant to remain non-practising until the recommended courses are complete. Following return to nursing practise, the Registrant will complete a self-reflection tool encouraging continued effective practise.
The Inquiry Committee is satisfied that the terms will protect the public and appreciates the Registrant’s engagement with processes in place at the employer and regulatory level to support safe and effective nursing practise.
