File 2016-0059
On June 2, 2017 the Inquiry Committee approved a Consent Agreement.
Following admission to hospital and a subsequent diagnosis of a disability, a panel of the Inquiry Committee approved a Consent Agreement under which the Registrant agreed to undertakings involving regular monitoring for fitness to practice nursing. The reasons for the Inquiry Committee decision are as follows:
- The Registrant and the treating medical specialist reported to CRNBC that the Registrant was hospitalized at the time for psychiatric care due to a mental health aliment that was likely to impair practice.
- The Registrant voluntarily participated in an independent medical assessment confirming health concerns which could impact the ability to provide safe patient care. The Registrant attended residential treatment for addiction.
- The independent medical assessment indicated that the Registrant is fit to practice nursing with specific safeguards in place, and provided information regarding compliance with treatment recommendations and safeguards.
The undertakings include, but are not limited to: a limit on working overnight shifts and overtime for three months, supervision including biological screening requirements, regular reports from treating physicians regarding compliance with treatment recommendations, and disclosure of treatment recommendations to relevant employer representative(s). The Agreement will remain in place for a minimum of 18 months of continuous nursing practice, requiring a re-evaluation by the medical specialist at that time to determine if further medical monitoring is required.
The name of the Registrant has been withheld in accordance with section 39.3 (4) (a) of the
Health Professions Act for the purposes of not identifying the personal health information of the Registrant respecting the condition. The Inquiry Committee is satisfied that the undertakings will protect the public.
