On August 23, 2019, a panel of the Inquiry Committee approved a Consent Agreement between BCCNP and Elena Zarayskaya of Coquitlam, to remediate practice issues related to inserting a nasogastric (NG) tube into a high risk patient on November 21, 2018, which is outside of the scope of practice for an LPN, and failing to hand over the patient requiring a higher level of care to an RN. Additionally, the Registrant administered medication through the NG tube without a written order from the physician confirming placement and authorizing its use, and was not forthcoming and truthful when questioned about her actions by her supervisor.
The Registrant has voluntarily agreed to terms equivalent to a two (2) week suspension and a condition on practice, including a period of supervised practice consisting of regular shift check-ins and unscheduled practice and charting audits. The Registrant has also agreed to education and disclosure terms.
The Inquiry Committee is satisfied that the terms will protect the public.
