On October 1, 2019, a panel of the Inquiry Committee approved a Consent Agreement between BCCNP and LPN David Stephens of Parksville, B.C., to remediate practice issues related to administering the wrong medications to a resident resulting in the resident's hospitalization. The Registrant has voluntarily agreed to terms equivalent to a limit on practice, including having his medication administration supervised by another Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse for a period of three months of full time practice or 450 hours, whichever is greater.
The Registrant has also agreed to the development of a robust learning plan with a focus on principles of medication administration, and applying the principles to practice. The Registrant has agreed to incorporate strategies and include learning activities that will assist in preventing similar occurrences in the future. The Registrant will also obtain written feedback from his manager and/or educator on the progress of his learning plan on a monthly basis for a minimum of three months. Thereafter, the Registrant will obtain written feedback on the clinical application of his learning plan at least once every four months for a period of 12 months.
The Inquiry Committee is satisfied that the terms will protect the public.
