On May 20, 2021, a panel of the Inquiry Committee approved a Consent Agreement between BCCNM and Maria Ryder (AKA Hutchison) of Stewart, B.C., to address practice issues that occurred between January and October 2019.
Ms. Ryder has voluntarily agreed to a public reprimand and six-month suspension from nursing practice (to commence upon reinstating their registration) for making repeated medication and documentation errors, practising outside their scope of practice, failing to follow proper clinical procedures, and inappropriately accessing the health records of approximately 233 individuals, as well as their own health records.
If and when Ms. Ryder successfully applies for reinstatement of her nursing registration, she has voluntarily agreed to the following additional terms equivalent to a limit and/or condition on their practice, including:
a) | A limit prohibiting them from medication administration, unless directly supervised by a Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner or physician; |
b) | A limit prohibiting them from any unsupervised nursing workplace computer access for a period of six months; |
c) | Remedial education in the fields of medication administration, documentation and professional ethics; |
d) | Direct supervision of their nursing practice for six months.

The Inquiry Committee is satisfied that the terms will protect the public.
