Tuthill, Gary, LPN

Consent agreement

Oct 31, 2021

On October 31, 2021, a panel of the Inquiry Committee approved a Consent Agreement between BCCNM and Gary Tuthill of Nanaimo, B.C. to address a conduct issue in August 2020 when, in frustration, the Registrant yelled at or very near a long-term care resident in response to interruptions in his work. The Registrant also failed to ensure consistent closure of the medication room and failed to leave his phone with colleagues while on break during fall 2020. Workload challenges and a significant number of extra shifts were noted as contributing to these issues. The Registrant cooperated with investigation, acknowledging the facts outlined above and opportunities for improvement.

The Registrant has voluntarily agreed to terms the following:

a.

A public reprimand, as outlined above.

b.

Remedial education in ethical patient care and professional communication.

c.

A regulatory practice consulting program to address the foundational issues underpinning this Agreement.

d.

A period of mentorship in the workplace.

The Inquiry Committee is satisfied that the terms will protect the public.
