On April 1, 2022, a panel of the Inquiry Committee approved a Consent Agreement between BCCNM and the Registrant wherein the Registrant agreed to conditions and/or limits on their nursing practice to ensure their fitness upon returning to practice. The concerns were brought to the attention of the College by the Registrant's employer and included diversion of narcotics for self-use and falsifying records in order to conceal the diversion activities. The terms of the Consent Agreement include, but are not limited to:
An eight-week suspension and reprimand.
Regular reports from a medical monitoring agency regarding compliance.
Disclosure of treatment recommendations to relevant employer representatives.
Limits on practice designed to prevent the circumstances leading to the practice concern from reoccurring. The limits include no access to restricted drugs for a term; not having supervision over students and/or orienting new staff; and not being the sole nurse on shift.
The Agreement will remain in place for a minimum of four years of continuous nursing practice.
The reasons for the Inquiry Committee decision are as follows:
The Registrant provided an independent medical assessment documenting health concerns to BCCNM which could impact the ability to provide safe patient care.
The independent medical assessment identified the Registrant is fit to practice nursing.
The name of the Registrant has been withheld in accordance with section 39.3 (4) (a) of the Health Professions Act for the purposes of not identifying the personal health information of the Registrant respecting the condition. The Inquiry Committee is satisfied that the terms will protect the public.
