Sarao, Sandeep, RN

Consent agreement

Apr 2, 2023

On April 2, 2023, a panel of the Inquiry Committee approved a Consent Agreement between BCCNM and Sandeep Sarao of Surrey, to address practice issues that occurred on December 25 and 26, 2021, and related to the Registrant's failure to engage in appropriate application, use, and supervision of 4-point restraints on an elderly, vulnerable patient. Also, the Registrant created false and misleading entries in the patient's medical record. Further, the Registrant did not provide adequate bed clothes, bedding, and analgesic medication to ensure the comfort and dignity of the restrained elderly and vulnerable patient.

The Registrant has voluntarily agreed to terms equivalent to a limit and/or condition on their practice, including:

  1. the Registrant agrees to a suspension of their BCCNM registration for 28 days,
  2. the Registrant agrees to limits on practice: for the next 6 months the Registrant will not work as the sole RN on duty, will not work as the RN In-Charge, will not supervise students, will not orient new staff members, will not work night shifts, and will not work for more than one employer,
  3. the Registrant will complete a BCCNM Regulated Practice Consultation,
  4. the Registrant will complete a Learning Plan,
  5. the Registrant's practice will be supervised for six months,
  6. the Registrant will complete educational coursework in professional standards, clinical decision-making, communications, documentation, ethics, and gerontology in nursing, and
  7. the Registrant agrees not to repeat the conduct relating to this matter.

The Inquiry Committee is satisfied that the terms will protect the public.
