On May 10, 2024, a panel of the Inquiry Committee approved a consent agreement between BCCNM and the registrant to address the diversion of narcotics from their place of work for personal use while off-duty, and practising when they were experiencing a health condition that impaired their ability to safely and competently practice nursing.
The registrant was diagnosed with and admitted to a disability with a causal relationship to the practice issues via an independent medical report and they have agreed to comply with the treatment recommendations.
The registrant has voluntarily agreed to terms equivalent to a limit and/or condition on their practice for 12 months, including:
A limit on access to and handling of narcotics, with concurrent medical monitoring, to support the stable return to fitness to practice.
A limit on the type of nursing environment planned for return to work, as violence and aggression are contraindicated for the registrant,
A limit on being the sole nurse on duty, and
Random biological screening for mood altering substances by a professional medical monitor.
The agreement will remain in place for a minimum of 15 months of continuous nursing practice.
The name of the registrant has been withheld in accordance with section 39.3 (4) (a) of the Health Professions Act for the purposes of not identifying a registrant or their personal health information respecting the condition that impaired their ability to practice nursing.
The Inquiry Committee is satisfied that the terms will protect the public.
